the advantage of having Portuguese parents, and simultaneously having a Luxembourg passport, is that one can cheer for 2 countries in sports instead of one. The disadvantage is...that my parents are from Portugal and my passport from Luxembourg.
I went through the official website of the winter olympics yesterday and found no Portuguese and no Luxembourger on the participants list. For God's sake, Cameroon have got their little star, so have Fiji islands, Kenya, Puerto Rico, and even Jamaica are back with their super bob team...I went to 2 top Portuguese sports websites this morning, and when clicking on the link "Olympic Games", I was offered a summary of Sydney 2000.
Come on Portugal, give us our Eddie the Eagle, this superstar who came last at 1988 (?) winter olympics in ski jumping. I volunteer to represent either Portugal or Luxembourg to Winter Olympics, but please choose me a suitable discipline: no ski jumping ( afraid of heights ), no bobsleigh ( are you nuts? ) and no ice hockey ( hate homosexual bodychecks! ). Curling could be fun, though: I do my own ironing at home, and I'm quite good at swiping the floor with a broomstick ( whatever Karine says ). So let's start the campaign "Alex at the 2006 Winter Olympics" ( where will they be by the way? ). Who agrees?
Have a nice day. I hope I'll wake up after 2 cups of coffee.
If you ever wondered, what the lyrics mean in the traditional Portuguese "fado", here a little insight:
This is an authentic letter sent to Dear Deirdre ( sexual and relationship problem solver ) of the Sun Newspaper.
I am a sailor in the merchant navy. My parents live in South London and one of my sisters, who lives in Brixton, is married to a guy from Liverpool. My Father and Mother have recently been arrested for growing and selling marijuana and are currently dependent on my two sisters, who are prostitutes. I have two brothers, one who is currently serving a non-parole life sentence in Wormwood Scrubs for the rape & murder of a teenage boy in 1994, the other currently being held in Wandsworth on remand centre on charges of incest with his three children. I have recently become engaged to marry a former Thai prostitute who indeed is still a part time “working girl” in a brothel, however, her time there is limited as she has recently been infected with an STD. We intend to marry as soon as possible and are currently looking into the possibility of opening our own brothel with my fiancée utilising her knowledge of the industry working as the manager. I am hoping my two sisters would be interested in joining our team. Although I would prefer them not to prostitute themselves, it would at least get them off the streets and hopefully the heroin. My problem is this: I love my fiancée and look forward to bringing her into the family and of course I want to be totally honest with her. Should I tell her about my brother-in-law being a Scouser ?
